When asked to speak to the students at Wittenberg University about hip hop culture. The first thing I told them: “I am hip hop. It wasn’t an option for me.” What I meant by that was that I was born in the time and raised in the city that hip hop culture spawned from. My every word, my every step, my every gesture was genuine hip hop. It’s not an act. It’s nothing that I found. It was there when I arrived. I don’t have to mimic what I have seen. I just was.
That’s one of the things that I love about our M. Nicholson Hip Hop Fitness program. It was developed with the essence of hip hop music and dance in mind.
