Winning is an awesome thing. It feels fantastic to know that your were or are that good at something. That you rose above the rest and became a champion. That people look to you in that very moment as the BEST! Now you might ask yourself “Who wouldn’t want folk to experience the feeling of winning” Right? Well there are folks who don’t want to see you win. Watch out for them.
Not everyone wants to see you win but not everyone matters. This is the thing that you have to constantly remind yourself of. This is the thing that I have to always remember. The reason being is that you can let the wrong people get too close or tied up in your affairs and that can be to your detriment. That’s when you could end up letting the wrong folks too close to your process and preparation for the win. They get to see the machine working and have the opportunity to throw a monkey wrench into the WHOLE THING!
Have you ever seen a boxing match? It’s not just the boxer that enters the ring. It’s also their cornermen. They are there to get the boxer ready and make sure that they are prepared to take on their opponent. They are setting up said boxer for the win. They motivate their boxer.
They get to see the machine working and have the opportunity to throw a monkey wrench into the WHOLE THING!
They reduce the swelling. They seal up cuts. They hydrate the boxer. It’s an individual sport but a group effort. Now imagine the boxer’s cornermen not fulfilling any of these duties. Telling the fighter that they can’t win. Telling them to prematurely throw in the towel. Spiking their water. Letting the blood bleed into their eyes causing them to be temporary blinded. You can’t win with a corner like that.
So be very careful who you you have on your team or in your corner. The wrong folks could be spiking your water bottle with rusty monkey wrenches.
